What exactly is professional branding
When talking about your professional branding there’s three buckets that it all falls under. You’ll have:
- your cover letter
- your resume and
- your LinkedIn profile
All three of these are critically important and I want you to understand or have the mindset that it’s valuable property – essentially it’s real estate, and what you put in needs to be strategic in terms of where you place certain information. You want to get the best return on your investment.
There’s a layout in a format that you should use every time in terms of your job search when it comes to your professional branding.
The overall arching strategy behind it so from a strategic standpoint what I want you to think about is your aim. Your aim is to get interviews so it’s very important that you take the time to make sure that the information that you’re using and putting together in terms of your professional branding is helping you elevate yourself.
In terms of thought leadership whether it’s a specific topic or subject that you’re an SME in or subject matter expert that you want to start getting out there and communicating and showing and demonstrating that thought leadership.
Why you need to focus on keywords
The other point that we need to focus on in terms of your professional branding is keywords.
There’s a lot of challenges and things have changed drastically in terms of ATS – applicant tracking system. You will want to communicate and utilize the keywords that are on the job descriptions for the positions that you’re applying for.
Resumes need to be keyword rich but not over-the-top to ensure that it qualifies you for that role when somebody’s viewing it or going through an ATS or an applicant tracking system.
Once you have the use of using role specific keywords on your resume, you need to start taking action.
Start taking action
The next thing you want to focus on is doing some measurements to make sure that you’re out there and you’re scheduling time to start applying to different roles using different strategies with your professional branding.
Some of these strategies might include – communicating on LinkedIn and connecting with individuals, but scheduling that time is critically important. What you don’t provide time for you won’t do.
You will also want to make sure that you’re tracking and measuring the amount of time spent, specific actions taken and the results.
Your professional branding is it getting you the interviews right and then adjusting based upon those results you got to see what’s working and what’s not and then that way you know you have a roadmap of here’s where I’m gonna focus my time effort and energy.
Next, I’ll talk about engagement on social media and how to do that and valuable strategies behind it.
